Professor Bill Z. Littlefield

Bill Z. Littlefield was a graduate of Indiana University's School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) where he received both a BS and an MPA. His area of expertise was Geographical Information Systems (GIS). At SPEA, he worked in various positions in Geographic Information Systems prior to becoming a faculty lecturer for the Operations and Decision Technologies Department at the Kelley School of Business. Bill was promoted to his current position of Senior Lecturer earlier in 2005.

During his career at the Kelley School of Business, Bill taught the required technology courses in the Kelley Undergraduate curriculum, K201 and X201. He also coordinated K201 for three years, and then became the coordinator of both courses.

Bill was responsible for both the day-to-day operations and the curriculum of these two courses. Over the years, both K201 and X201 have been rated as state-of-the-art courses in several surveys both regionally among Big Ten schools and nationally among business schools. Bill has been involved in other courses as well. He taught the introductory Business Process Management course and a Web Services course. All the courses Bill taught have technology at the core, the area of Bill's expertise. Bill was active in several professional societies. He was a member of the Decision Sciences Institute and made several teaching/curriculum presentations at their professional meetings. He also co-authored several proceedings papers that dealt with teaching and curriculum issues. Prior to joining the Kelley School, Bill was also involved in many professional activities of GIS organizations.

Bill had a passion for teaching. He had a knack of making tough concepts easy to understand. He always took a special interest in his students and was always willing to spend extra time with them, particularly on advising. As the coordinator of these two large courses at Indiana University, Bill's teaching influenced thousands of students each year at the Kelley School of Business.
