Dear Friends of Indiana University,
""I believe it is fair to say that philanthropy has been a civilizing influence beyond measure; that it has been the font for many of the inspirations of progress; and that America is forever being improved by the generous impulse of her citizens."" Herman B. Wells (1970).
When a young person hears the words, ""You have cancer,"" his or her life begins a series of unexpected and unwelcome detours. Often, plans for pursuing higher education have to be put aside as more pressing concerns take priority. Medical bills and other financial burdens can stand in the way of pursuing a college education.
As college students, we all enjoy our days of socializing, studying late into the night and creating life-enduring friendships. We want to give a young cancer patient those same life opportunities. In giving back that life stage, the Indiana University Circle of Life is developing the first-ever collegiate mini-marathon in Indiana, to offer a ""Scholarship for Survivors,"" designated for a cancer survivor from the Indiana University Cancer Center or Riley Hospital for Children Cancer Center.
As President of Circle of Life and an undergraduate student at Indiana University, I ask you to please consider making a contribution to support this worthy cause. Plato once said, ""Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a harder battle."" In the essence of kindliness, we hope you will join us in offering a cancer survivor the opportunity to attend the academically renowned Indiana University.
Sincerely,
|
