Indianapolis Resident Will Advocate with the Lance Armstrong Foundation in Washington, D.C.

Bloomington, IN — April 29, 2007 — On May 16, 2007, Indianapolis resident and cancer advocate Myles Grote will join the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) in Washington, D.C., on Capitol Hill to demand that our nation's leaders invest in resources, treatment and services for people affected by cancer.

The LAF selected Myles Grote as one of 200 advocates to participate in LIVESTRONG Day, the LAF's grassroots advocacy initiative to unite people affected by cancer and raise awareness about cancer issues.

""I am honored to join the LAF for LIVESTRONG Day and look forward to the opportunity to talk with my members of Congress about supporting legislation that expands access to screening, treatment, and care and to emphasize the importance of making cancer a national priority,"" said Myles Grote. ""Participating in LIVESTRONG Day is important to me because I recently lost my aunt to breast cancer on March 16, 2007 and it is time to end needless death and suffering due to cancer.""

Myles Grote, a senior at Indiana University has been heavily involved in the cancer community since he co-founded a not-for-profit corporation known as Circle of Life with a group of students on the Indiana University campus in Bloomington, IN. Circle of Life is a registered 501(C)3 student organization incorporated in the State of Indiana. The primary mission of the organization was the establishment and funding of the largest scholarship for cancer survivors in the Nation known as the Bill Z. Littlefield Scholarship for Survivors. The scholarship was named in honor of a Kelley School of Business professor whom lost his own battle with cancer on July 25, 2005. To fund the scholarship, Circle of Life hosted the Inaugural Circle of Life Indiana University Mini Marathon which drew in 3,200 registrants from 39 states and raised nearly $200,000 in revenues.

Myles plans to speak on behalf of what he feels is an extremely underserved population within the cancer community: Teenagers whom often are robbed of the opportunity to pursue higher education due to their diagnosis of cancer at such an early age. Currently there are no federal funds allocated in the form of scholarships for young students that are financially crippled due to extensive expenses that are incurred during their battle with cancer. It is Myles' hope that he will be able to initiate reform as he makes these underserved voices heard loud and clear on Capitol Hill.

In addition to the LAF's efforts in Washington, D.C., approximately 200 LIVESTRONG Day events will be held in communities across the country to engage communities with experiences that increase awareness and show support for cancer survivors and their loved ones.

About the Lance Armstrong Foundation

The Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) unites people to fight cancer. The LAF believes that unity is strength, knowledge is power and attitude is everything. The LAF provides the practical information and tools people battling cancer need to live life on their own terms. The LAF also takes aim at the gaps between what is known and what is done to prevent death and suffering due to cancer. We engage with and advocate for the public at large to pursue an agenda focused on prevention, ensuring access to screening and care, investment in research, and improving the quality of life for people affected by cancer. Founded in 1997 by cancer survivor and champion cyclist Lance Armstrong, the LAF is located in Austin, Texas. To learn more about the Lance Armstrong Foundation, visit livestrong.org.
